About –
Newport National Golf Club is one of New England’s finest golf courses. Located in Middletown RI, this award winning 200-acre golf course originally opened back in 2002.
Newport National which started out as a landscape nursery is now deemed the “Number One Public Access Course in New England,” by New England Golf Monthly. Designed by legendary golf architect Arthur Hills and his associate Drew Rogers, the Orchard Course at Newport National Golf Club spans over 7,244 challenging yards. This 18-hole modern links course sports sloping fairways, marshes, and strategically placed bunkers. The dramatic setting boasts views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Sakonnet Passage, while challenging golfers with steady winds coming off of the Narragansett Bay. Both seasoned golfers and newcomers learning the game will enjoy the natural beauty as the course weaves throughout fairways, tees, and greens of seaside bentgrass outlined by fescues. Newport National is reminiscent of courses in Ireland and the legendary Scottish links.
Course Conservation –
Our meticulously maintained course at Newport National has earned us status as a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf recognizes a golf course’s ability to maintain a high degree of environmental quality. Newport National’s Golf Course Superintendent, Scott Roche, leads the effort to maintain sanctuary status and is recognized for his leadership in environmental stewardship by Audubon International. He notes, “I have been responsible for the playing conditions on this property since the very beginning and I am excited to be a part of the project as we move forward. Newport National is a fantastic place, blending class-leading golf with the terroir of Aquidneck Island.”
Newport National partners with the Aquidneck Land Trust to preserve open space and natural wildlife habitats. A conservation easement protects the property which includes nearly five miles of the Sakonnet Greenway Trail, a bridle and walking path along the course perimeter.
